During our time together we will discuss our the Israelites desire for a king and how that connects to our lives today. Jesus should be on the throne of our hearts, but is He? Let’s talk about it.

Just a reminder, this series is NOT:

We are NOT telling anyone how to vote. We are not giving anyone a "Christian voter's guide."

We do NOT expect everyone in InterVarsity to think alike or vote the same way.

We're also NOT avoiding this topic because it's uncomfortable.

Here's what it IS:

We DO believe that following Jesus extends into every area of life, and we want to have Scripture-informed conversations about what it might mean to follow Jesus in this area. When the early disciples declared "Jesus is Lord," it was a political statement, not just a theological one. The coming of the Messiah was fused with political implications for the Jewish people and the Roman Empire, and this is also true for us in the United States.

We believe the gospel is good news for every area of life, including our politics.

This five-session Small Group series explores how God's people have historically engaged with power, justice, and political organization. The Orientation provides a framework for understanding political engagement and sets the stage for the studies. Each session follows a consistent structure: opening question, story, Scripture study, challenge, and closing. Optional "Beyond the Text" sections are designed to engage our current time.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out and join the sessions! Email jonathan.walton@intervarsity.org with any questions.
